FAB Collage - Thief

Thief

Here is a little dreamscape that my subconscious came up with and I can't figure out what was going on in the dream. Sometimes they inform me what I have been worried about and other times the interpretation remains a mystery.

Quilt - Sophia's Baby Quilt

Sophia's Baby Quilt

This baby quilt was for my next door neighbor's kid.  As I recall it was made from lots of leftover pieces. Sorry about the lousy photo, but she is in high school now. I did get a thank you from this Mom.

Funny thing about baby quilts though - I barely get a thank you for them.  I know they are busy with a newborn, but really, no thank you, not even an email? I should learn - hand made quilts that takes many hours to make should not go to babies!

Quilt: "Rabbit" - Baby Quilt

Rabbit - Baby Quilt

I don't even remember who this baby quilt was given too! Geesh, by now the kid is in college! Most of it was made from stencils that I cut.  But those off-center mariner stars, I can't imagine how I mastered that technique!

Quilt: "Sailboat" - Kid Quilt

Sailboat

As I recall, I made a couple of versions of this over the years. This one I gave to Raf when he was a small boy. His Mother told me that when he went off to college he wanted to take it with him. That really tickled me!

Quilt: "Pond-derosa" - The "flexible" quilt

 Ponderosa (full)

Ponderosa (cut into Three Sections)

Ponderosa (in Two Sections)

Sometimes you get lucky.  My landlord many years ago hired me to plant a garden for him at his lovely home on a lake.  Then he commissioned me to make a quilt that was to be hung in his large sunken living room.  Somehow I got this behemoth under my sewing machine arm and quilted it.
Then a couple of years later he called me, he was moving to Florida and didn't want this quilt to just be stored at the bottom of a blanket chest, did I want it back?  Sweet!

But for a long time I had nowhere to hang it, it was just too large for any of my rooms!  So I cut it into thirds and hung it at my Mom's.  Amazingly enough, I could slice it up without cutting into any of the major elements.  I hung the two sides together for  a couple of years. Then my Mother built an addition to her home and it will be no surprise that the quilt fit perfectly over her couch.  Now the 2 side pieces hang in my brother's living room.

By the way - the "sun rays" are the "leftover" pieces from yesterday's entry - Awakenings.

Quilt - Awakenings

Awakenings

I remember I put this quilt together during a snowstorm, many years ago.  A gift of a "free day" where there was no where to go.

I had left over wedges that went into another piece, I'll try to upload an image of that tomorrow!

Shibori Quilted

Shibori Quilted

Another component to the Japanese Royal Crest quilt is the shibori.  Tricky to quilt it and not lose the beauty of the cloth, so I just did "free form" spiral quilting.  You can surely see - I'm in my "blue" period, move over Picasso!
